‘I’ve always been interested in graphic design and illustration - I love wartime advertising posters especially. After visiting the Yorkshire Air Museum and seeing the ‘Friday the 13th’ Halifax Bomber up close, I had made my mind up that this was going to be the design I was going to paint on the Golf. I started painting it black, then realised it would get very hot inside an old car with only wind-up windows as ‘air con’… and changing the paperwork seemed a daunting task as the original colour is blue. I’d already previously saved pictures I’d seen of other people’s take of the ‘Shark Plane’ on their VW’s and decided this would look equally as good and I would just paint the car a different shade of blue. I still haven’t got around to finishing it completely!’ Lisa
